In the end, Dawn of War: Soulstorm may represent the final episode in the original series, but that doesn't mean it is dead or going anywhere anytime soon.
Article Comments for by Charles Onyett Summary: Back in 2004 Relic unleashed the original Dawn of War, a real-time strategy game, and established its distinctive, polished take on control point capture gameplay. The game shifted focus from base building to managing units in the field and provided an enjoyable type of resource collection. It didn't hurt that it was based in a universe as rich as Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 fiction, where blood, beastly deeds, and brutal combat are commonplace. 'Despite the overcrowded selection, the two additions are nevertheless entertaining' Are you kidding me? What the hell is wrong with you? It's either too few or too many races, never good enough. No other RTS has 9 distinctly different factions. This is a big reason Dawn of War is arguably the best RTS you can play. 'Man, this game is looking really dated' Stop being such a f**king baby, this game looks excellent considering the graphics engine is 4 years old. What did you expect? I agree with the overall score. 7/10, or at the most 8/10 is what I would score it. But this is probably the WORST review I have ever read for any game on any website and I've read hundreds in my lifetime. And here come the fanboys to defend the mediocre expansion. Admit it, SS didn't do anything new like Dark Crusade at least took a different turn from Winter Assault & Dawn of War with the campaign, SS literally copied and pasted DC's campaign. Same campaign but this time on planets! Nevermind that the bonuses for the territories are literally the same and the flying units were disappointing at least, they add nothing new at all that a vehicle can do. I agree with IGN it's a 7.0 game nothing more, nothing less. It does bear noting though that the reviews lack any consistancy sometimes. Take Metroid Prime 3. It gets rated high in the graphics department when in reality its just a bit shinier than MP1 or 2. The graphics have essentially stagnated there and there's no excuse for it. It's a console game, it can do for an upgrade. Take Dawn of War which really can't upgrade. It's a pc game and expansions usually offer more content, not change the look of a game. Dawn of War never looked the greatest but it always looked good. So to upgrade that would require them to force players to possibly upgrade their video cards? Yeah, thats a good idea. Warhammer 40 000: Dawn Of War - Soulstorm Demo FreeGriping about it here is pointless and comes off as a potshot more than anything. Hey guys, I understand many may like this expansion more, but I think it's a fair statement to say with nine armies in the game, things start to get diluted. I'm not against a game having plenty of options for play just on principle alone, I don't think anyone is. And the graphics are dated - I think that had to be mentioned, and so I said it. As for the review's quality, well, that's a matter of opinion, much like a review is an opinion. To Misfit119, I see your point, but I can't speak to how MP was reviewed since it was a different reviewer. A piss-poor review that misses out many of the flaws with this title. Most notably the mutilation that the background story receives and the fact that half of the stuff was just copy-pasted from Dark Crusade. Hell it even refers to Eliphas as your commander at one point, who is not even in Soulstorm. Let's not forget the fact that you're effectively paying for balance changes and bug fixes that should have been patched in over a year ago, the flying units add next to no value to the game, the campaign is way too long and has none of the witty commander banter that Dark Crusade had and is again, little more than a series of skirmishes with all of the cool shit that Dark Crusade had omitted. And do we really need to talk about the hideously overpowered Sisters of Battle and their 'one size kills all' Penitent Engines? Seriously, don't waste your $40 on this, it's not worth it, it's an insult to 40k and Dawn of War fans alike. Dawn of War is a great game. I love the fact they are adding all these races. Gives people a cheaper way to enjoy the Warhammer 40K universe. People who complain about the graphics and how 'crowded' its getting, seriously need to step back and enjoy the vastness this could become. I have been waiting for a strategy game that could actually make me excited well waiting to load online. I mean, you put it on random and you could have one of 9 races, as opposed to a grouping of 3-4. I am excited for every new race. Yes they could spiff it up a bit, they could make the races rediculously different, but at the same time they need it to be balanced. Personally I cannot wait for Tyranids, that would be a really different race to play, like if they hold an area for 5 to 10 minutes whoever takes it afterwards can't get resource from it. Even say that they can't get anything from it, like they suck it dry fast, so they get resources really quickly, but they don't get as much as they could, kind of thing. Lets stop complaining so much, there are not many games that are like this, that do it well. I have to say i'm a bit dissapointed about a FEW things. Systools vcard exports. Open, View & Batch Export MS Outlook Contacts to vCard, WAB, Google or Yahoo Contacts. This PST to vCard migrator provides multiple options to move Outlook PST contacts to Google CSV / Yahoo CSV or transfer PST files to vCard. VCard Converter provides option to move Outlook contact. The air units are well. You just have 1 for each army and thats it. Two or three for each whould have been more like it. 2.I REALLY enjoyed the commanders exchanging some words as you lay siege to a stronghold in Dark Crusade. Right now they're replased with cheasy monologues. ANNoying cheasy monologues. 3.The graphic quality seems the same as Dark Crusade but it requires a stronger machine? Well.no tyranids. Nuff said.(There is a fan made mod with them currently in development and it looks promising) I'm glad i get to play with a faction that directly represents the inquisition and the second of the 4 surviving eldar nations(they were 4 the last time i checked, hope they're revealed in DOW2 ). It's an OK expansion overall. People looking for something new aren't going to find it here. Warhammer 40 000: Dawn Of War - Soulstorm Demo 2But the Warhammer universe fans will find this appealing. Looks like the online play didn't suffer at all, in my opinion at least and thats satisfying. Dark eldar pawn, and the Guard as well. Click to expand. This might be a bit late to the party but I wanted to reply since you actually replied to me. Not expected but hey, not a bad thing. I don't think you're wrong for pointing out the graphics being dated, as I said in my post the graphics were never good for this game. When released it wasn't even on Warcraft 3 level, close but not quite. WC 3 hasn't aged the best either so that's not a shock. As for the Metroid thing I know that wasn't you nor was I knocking any lack of consistancy on you as a reviewer. That was more a gripe against the reviewing community, professional or not, as a whole. Some people get on the behinds of others for rehashing the same thing every year and it's a valid point. But then a game takes several years in development and has the same graphics as the one before it and it's praised for its same but shinier graphics. I dunno, that's just me. Warhammer 40 000: Dawn Of War - Soulstorm Demo PcI have a lot of gripes with the reviewing community, gripes I could go on about for hours but it's mostly pointless. As a reviewer for a few websites I'd feel like I was, proverbially, pooping where I eat. It's just that certain. Tropes, I guess is a good word, of reviewing games are starting to get to me. Dawn Of War Soulstorm CampaignNot your fault of course but I'm getting sick of certain points, graphics being a bit one. Lots of people whine when no innovation truly occurs but then other games praise releases with no innovation. Ignore my rambling. Your review is just fine and I enjoyed the read. I too think that having 9 armise you start to lose the little, what makes me different, and start stretching a bit. After three or four it starts to get a bit much. To Nemesis0601, They weren't expecting a new game, but thats just it. Dark Crusade made the game so much better, with a new campaign mode, new maps, and the new races that ACTUALLY play different from the others. I haven't played soulstorm yet, but from what I hear, the sisters of battle are fun, and extremly faithfull to the actualy models, but play similiar to space marines in that There Infantry are the bulk, and the best in thier army. Dark eldar I imagine play like a mix between Eldar and Chaos. And my friend agrees that the whole 'Soul essense' Thing is just pointless busy work.
